No you do not need to upgrade the motor, stock internals will hold a 16G just fine. Is that your full mod list? If not can you post them. Your also going to want to look into something to tune with if you plan on turning up the boost, AFC, dsmlink, MAFT, AEM.

i'm running a big16g on 550cc, stock fuel pump and fpr, pump is rewired and i'm pushing a nice 20 lbs of boost and running great.
I have 1000cc injectors, 255 wally, fpr and a few other things i will be installing and still running the big16g for a little bit untill i get some more funds to go bigger.
still stock internals and such at 90k+ miles on the car :) running great!

I ran a 16g on a stock motor with stock injectors on a stock ecu at 14psi for a summer and never ran into a problem. Any higher boost has the potential to be catastrophic though and I don't suggest trying it without a logger.
