View Full Version : Understanding where my power is at...
I have a 2g AWD, auto, 14b, Greddy BOV, 3" turbo back exhaust, cool air intake, running about 12-13psi. Those are all of the mods pertaining to the power train that have been done, here is my question/concern.
To me it seems as if I have more power at half throttle than I do at full throttle, WHY?
Also after about 4500 RPM my power starts to disappear, why?
And someone also said that there was some kind of mod I could buy to make my trans shift when I want it to, I could not find it can someone help me find one? I dont even know what its called.
Thanks my fellow DSM junkies :-)

Your volumetric efficiency is peaking at that RPM with your current mods/tune.
First - without anymore fuel, you will not be able to run more boost
second - without a way to tune you won't be able to run more boost, adjust timing and adjust your VE.
third, your tranny is sucking up some power
fourth - you have a leak somewhere or compression isn't what it used to be
OoooooOoOoOoOo this is some good stuff here.
So... First - how do i take care of this? Bigger injectors? Bigger Fuel pump? One of the SAFC that everyone destroys their car with?
Second - How would you "tune"? I had no idea these cars had adjustable timing, how do you adjust your VE?
Third - Auto sucks I understand
Fourth - Compression is about 155 across the board so maybe a small boost leak? It hold good pressure but it could be losing some volume... correct?

The next step in your modding gets more complicated.
yes you will need to make a desicion on how far you want to go, which will help you decide injectors, pump, afpr, and a tuning device.
I suggest DSMLink.
yes you can adjust timing, fuel, ve, and much more on these cars with a device such as DSMlink.
Read up on these next steps and go from there.
I would go with: 650cc injectors, 190 wally pump, no afpr, dsmlink lite version.
How do I monitor my VE? And which one of those steps to I do first? Or is that all at the same time stuff?

just so you understand its more complicated than bolting on parts and pressing some keys.
Those mods would need to take place all at once.
All the tuning you would ever need link or a similar system can do with ease.
Yeah I can understand that. I have a good working knowledge of it all, I have just never done it myself.
What is afpr?
Have you ever heard of anyone putting hydrogen assist on their dsm? or any turbo car for that matter?

afpr is aftermarket fuel pressure regulator
So if I wanted to put an afpr on there would I have to upgrade my fuel rail or does it go inline somewhere?
Also could I make that my first step? Fuel pump with an afpr? Would I be able to run that on top of my stock engine/fuel management system?

it usually goes on the return line and mounts on the firewall, no mods to the fuel rail besides fittings.
Yes you could make this your first step. Although you may not need it if you go with a pump like the 190, if you go with a larger pump you will def need it to adjust your fuel pressure back down.
Yes you can run that on stock fuel system, a afpr simply adjusts the pressure in the system by turning a screw. The stock one is non adjustable and set to 43.5psi, an afpr allows you to adjust your fuel pressure back down to stock levels when larger pump/s are installed.
Please take no offense to this as I am trying to help, but you may want to read up on this stuff before you go and drop some cash on parts like this. You say you are familiar with how this stuff works but you don't know what a afpr is? I don't want to see you blow something up because your understanding of tuning and fuel management isn't what you think it is. I could be totally wrong though.
The next step in your modding will require a bunch of parts all at once, and a good understanding of the tuning software you are using.
I do understand this i simply just did not understand the acronym "afpr". No offence taken and I really do appreciate the information you are giving me. So how does the 190 compare to the 255 everyone always talks about? Which should I get?
So next step would be 650cc injectors, dsm link? Is that right?
Ive never used dsm lilnk, does it allow you to customize a lot of settings? Is it fairly user friendly?
