can i take rods and pistons out of a 7-bolt and put them in a 6 bolt or is it just pisons?????

the best combo is to take the 1g rods and get them machined to fit the 2g pistons and install them in a 6 bolt block/crank.

i was just wondering the differance between 2g rods and 6bolt, i never really messed around with 7 bolts

i have a built 7 and want to take that and build a 6 , maybe id bee beter off sellin the built 7 bolt?

The 6 bolt rods are a little beefier.. If you hold them next to each other you can tell the difference pretty easily.

what about eagle rods whould their be a differance

What Ive read, I believe the eagle rods are capable of holding 100-200 more hp then the 1g rods.. Someone correct me if Im wrong..

eagle's are suppose to be good for 600whp

Eagles are good for well over 600 with a good tune. Why would you want to build a 6 bolt when you already have a built 7 bolt? Man you make my head spin.

haha, i agree. perfect something before starting another project.

......i should take my own advice. :(

dont worry about crank walk. in a high HP car, you'll be blowing something else up WAY before you'll have to worry about crank walk.

thats just one more thing id have to worry about, i dont like to worry about stuff i could have fixed the first time,

o and does any one want to trade a 50trim for a evo 16g ,,,i want to spool quiker, ill trow in down pipe and what ever else!!

dont even worry about crankwalk on a rebuilt engine, its the least of your worries. if you want something you dont have to worry about, buy an evo!

I have a built 6 bolt motor I would be willing to sell. It wouldnt be cheap though.

The Head:
Forced Performance 3x Cams (Comp Cams)
Dual springs
news valves/guides/seals/retainers
3g lifters
Greddy Cam gears
Polished 1g CAS (Polished by myself ;)

The Block:
Crower Rods
ross Pistons (20 over)
ARP studs
Balance Shafts eliminated
Greddy Timing belt
All new timing equipment (Some things not yet installed)

$3800 for the block/head. I believe I have about $4000 into it and its never been in a car yet.. Also has a greddy timing belt, and If I sold this motor, I would have a blue venom intake manifold I wuld be getting rid of. Only thing I really need yet, is the water pump.

what car did you have planned to put it in? and why sell it all now?

BoostinPower

It was planned for the GSX ;)

Now I wanna get an evo and depending on the evo that I find, I may make the GSX my daily driver.. This motor was originally intended for a gt42r and a 150 shot of nitrous.. When I bought it, my goals were 500 at the wheels..

You have it backwards

EVO= daily driver, after all it a four door family car
GSX=built monster, looks at least 10x better than any EVO I've ever seen.

btw crankwalk is a combination of things and happens with almost every consumer car on the market, it just happens frequently in 7-bolt dsms. The first and main reason it happens is a bad crank/bearing combination, mitsubishi had several and if you don't get them right you'll be walking within a few thousand miles, the second is low oil to center thrust bearings, there are a few solutions to this including making a "swiss cheese" bearing, but usually it isn't necessary. The last big reason is THE reason that cranks walk, the others are just what allows the problem to exist in the first place and that is improperly adjusted or monstrously overweight clutches. What happens is the clutches will gather spring energy over time from being improperly adjusted and start pushing on the crank, a particularly heavy clutch will make the problem worse. The most damaging part is starting the engine with the clutch fully in and pressure on the flywheel it is at this point that the center thrust bearing is receiving extreme pressure and no oil that does the most to create crankwalk.

Solutions:

1. Check that your clutch is well adjusted, pump your clutch 10-15 times then go under the car and see if you can push the slave cylinder rod in, if you can you have excess spring tension, go get your clutch replaced or adjusted.

2. Remove your clutch safety switch and start the engine with the clutch out and be careful not to lurch the car into anything.

3. Switch to an automatic.

i agree with you stash. the evo is an awesome DD. if i get another DSM, its gonna be a purpose built race car.

Fixed it for you. I say by this winter you will be starting that project. Still got the brakes and suspension? Might as well save yourself the trouble and just keep them.:D

i still have the brakes, suspension is gone.

I am thinking a FWD 2g Turbo. Something thats setup for high speed lapping days where the AWD does not have any advantage.

it would be completly gutted and setup for one thing, Road Race. it would also have a near complete stock motor with a T28 and maybe a FMIC.

Seeing the archor racing 1g at RA earlier this year made me realize how much weight effects everything. this car was setup for 100% race, but had a near stock motor and was passing everything in its path.

shoulda just kept this car, and stripped it out for road racing.

shoulda just kept this car, and stripped it out for road racing.

it was too nice to strip down for a full race car. plus i think i want FWD for the high speed stuff. AWD is just extra wait for speeds over 30-40mph.

I like the idea of the evo being the daily driver, but that motor would pay for a nice chunk of the evo ;)
