so i have some play in my shifter is that the barings or somthing else?

probably the bushings. you can replace the bushings that attach to the tranny with skateboard bearings and get a nice crisp precise shift, very common mod. worth it too.

or for 12 bucks you can order some booger bushings.they are made right here in wisconsin,check out boogerbushings.com ,im pretty sure he makes for 1st gens and they kick ass.my friend has them in his neon and that thing is tight

sounds like a good deal.
I've done the rollor skate bearings, they work good but it can be a PITA to press them into the cable ends.
make sure the bracket that holds the cables isnt loose. that can cause for some real sloppy shifting.

ok well i poped out the boot on the shifter and it looks like its the hardwear just moves side to side but i dont know ill put new bushings in cuz this car never has had them done but could it be the hardwear?

they are 12 for a pair or 22 for all for,thats shipped.i dont know if the 1st gens will work with the neons like my 420a 2g but who knows.prolly not worth the $22 risk,i didnt know he didnt make them for 1st gen dsms

I had a lot of play in my shifter to. I replaced the shifter bushings and the bushings under the hood and it helped a little. Later I found out the problem was the nylon bushings that hold the shifter cables.
I replaced the bushings in #1 and it fixed it.
There is also nylon bushings in the shifter pivot so check that out

So I got the bushings for the pivot look like itwont be hard to change but anything I need to know befor I start and the kit came with 6bushings any help would rock thanks

by now you probably already replaced the pivot bushings but it's pretty straight forward. if you havent the only thing i would recommend is to remove the center console.
