Hey guys, I just got my car back together and it won't start. Me and dsm430 replaced the valve seals, head gasket, and timing belt and the components and after putting it all back together I can't get it to start. I checked the firing order and thats all good. It smells like its getting gas. All i'm getting it to do is pop and sound like it maybe wants to start. Any ideas?

sounds like your timing is off did you reset all to factory?

Yeah we set the timing right. Then we turned the crank by hand 6 times around and all the marks were lined up again. I talked to dsm430 and he is convinced that I don't have spark. Mostly because my oil now smells like gas and is a bit odd colored and runny. So basically he thinks that the gas isn't being burnt and is being pushed past the rings into the oil which would make sense that it doesn't run and there is gas in the oil.

Start eliminating things:
check fuel pressure
check fuses
check wiring/plugs behind/around the intake manifold
check PTU
check for spark
check Cam angle sensor wiring/position
if 6bolt - check base timing
check compression
good luck - probably something simple

Here is my theory. I had a 1g style coil pack/bracket on my car and I traded for a 2g style one. Didn't swap coils or anything, just traded. I think the coils may be bad in the one I got since that is the only thing in the ignition that I changed. I'm going to check the spark in a little bit so I guess I'll find out there. If I have spark i'm going to triple check my CAS.
Well I have spark on all 4. I checked my CAS at TDC and it looks like it is in there the correct way.
Turns out the picture I had been using was wrong so I switched the CAS and put in new plugs and it runs.
