on a 95 gsx will a check eng light come on if you get rid of the cat

Yes. The rear O2 sensor will tell the ECU that the cat is not doing its jobs(for obvious reasons) and throw a CEL.

search DSM tuners for rear 02 delete/removal. A buddy of mine did it, you have to build a little resister box thing...

That or an extension to get the sensor out of the exhaust stream.
