I just bought this motor off of a member on here who told me the motor ran good and even sent me a video of it running. I started it up and whatnot and it was all nice and smooth and everything and about 30-40 minutes after driving it i started hearing the noise that's in the video. Oil level is good, etc etc. I tried pinpointing the noise with a stethoscope and i can't seem to pinpoint it. I thought i pinpointed it to the alternator oddly enough, and so i popped the belt off and let it run off battery for a bit and it still did it. I've heard knocking motors before and this one sounds a bit different than others i've heard.
Just trying to see if anyone has any ideas to throw out there before i pull this pos out, and go try and spend more money.......
I realize it's a hard thing to pinpoint from a video but i'm just kind of throwing this out there....

which tentionor did you buy? kind of a pain in the ass but i kinda think you should take the front of the motor apart and check all the timing stuff again.
i dont have a problem telling the world i sold you this motor cuz i know it had nothing wrong with it before. if i thought it was gonna blow up i would have kept the fucker and ran it into the ground

Used a stock replacement hydraulic one. There's not much to check with the timing stuff. it started right up and actually runs smooth minus the cracked out knock/ticking.

that knock seems liek a tensioner to me.just cuz its brand new doesnt mean it was a good one.

whatever the sound is it has nothing to do with the internals. my guess is somethings rattling that you never tightened.

I can tell you now its a waste of money. I know that motor very well. I helped pull it out when it was sold to you. theres something your missing. im thinking either something in the timing or something in the torque converter.

Flywheel and torque converter bolts were torqued to spec.

Flex Plate Mount bolt 127-137 N.m (94-101 ft.lbs)
Torque converter Mount Bolts 75 N.m (55 ft.lbs.)

Upon further inspection it sounds to be coming from the number 4 piston area on the block... that's where it is heard the most through the stethoscope in comparison to everywhere else.

whos valve cover did you use? did you put the valve cover on yourself? (i wasnt around to see what happened to the engine after it was out of the car) did anything fall into the head? all pulleys tight? any heat shields? I know it isnt the engine itself.

i pulled the heat shield off because i thought that was it at first. valve cover was on when i got the motor. only pulleys i touched were the timing ones which were also torqued to spec as well.
