I want to make my motor mounts solid (I like the feel of the vibration it will give off) but i really don't want to spend 80 bucks on a kit of prothane inserts, so i found this article of Vfaq.com - http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html -, but i have doubts that it will actually work... anyone tried it or know if it actually stiffens the mounts? thanks

you wanna do this to all the mounts or just the front and back roll stop mounts?

IMO Prothane inserts are easy enough to get and install with a lot less headache.

i was prolly just gonna do it to the front and back roll stop mounts, but the more i think about it wit all the work we are going to be doing to my car that day that we would put them in i think ill just spend the money on real inserts lol

there are spaces on the stock 420a motor mounts (as shown in the picture) that you are able to stuff things into it....gives it a more solid feel and it works pretty decent from what ive herd

other wise if you want more work

hopefully at the latest like two weeks. It should get painted this weekend, at which point all i have to wait for then is for my 12:1 FMU to arrive and the turbo which should have already gotten here.... but ill call ya when i start to get a good idea of when exactly

advanced auto has this stuff called window weld, that stuff works awesome for making solid mounts and 1 tube should do all 4 mounts,BUT you might want to wait a week for them to dry solid

well that would be really easy lol, and i wouldn't be surprised if the car is down for at least that amount of time, but then i don't get to play wit my welder :( lol

the welding solid mounts probably isnt all that good of an idea.it would work but it would be all kinds of noisey inside the car.with the window weld it will make the mount solid enough to work but soft enough that it wont vibrate the car apart. my friend brian did it to his neon and it made a world of difference in the launch

I'm pleased with my polyurethane filled mounts. I used PL Premium because I couldn't find window weld and it worked quite well. I did it while I had my transmission out so I had weeks to do it (first transmission I got was bad and it took a while to get another one). Simply start with a 1/4 inch of fill at a time, if you don't go in small increments it will never cure all the way through and the fill will fall out.

The window weld works decent but its not like mounts are that expensive.

If you're car is going to be apart for a while anyway I'd go with the window weld. $6 is a pretty cheap upgrade. As for vibration there is some more than there used to be but mostly the car just feels more solid and doesn't spin nearly as easily off the line.

yea im gonna go wit the window weld stuff, thanks for the tip guys! ik the real poly mounts aren't that expensive, but i guess im super cheap lol, i don't know wat im gonna do for a winter job right now so all the money i save is a help. should i just ask them for window weld when i go into auto zone then?

ok both of them are right next to eachother almost in neenah so ill look in both, wat should i do to fill the mount? lay it on its side and just squeeze some onto it in small amounts and let it fill from the bottom of the motor mount up?

honestly im not sure, but thats wat all the tech articles on turboing a 420a say to use, so i went wit it lol

It will be pretty obvious how to fill them, just do what makes you comfortable with a little at a time. It honestly doesn't matter much how it is done as long as it is done slowly.

I just filled them in and smoothed them out with a popsicle stick and put them in the oven for awhile. I don't know if it was the best way to go about it but it seemed to work.

the_mork

If you don't smooth them while they're soft a razor blade or sawzall blade will take off the extra fairly easily.

Just a tip, and I like the idea of throwing them in the oven somewhere between warm and 200*.

ok yea that seems like a more dumb question every time i read it lol, but also thanks for the oven idea, seems like that would speed up the process a little bit
