Hey guys, me and a buddy just got done finished up putting a new head on his '90 eclipse.. (2.0L 4g63 trbo) He had slipped the timing, and bent the valves.. so we threw a refurbished head on. Got great compression, got fuel.. but no spark on any cylinders. Before we tore it apart, it had plenty spark.. and im assuming that the coil packs are bad, but i dont see how replacing the head would cause that.

I looked over all my wiring that comes off the engine harness concluding to the coils, and see nothing wrong. There is absolutely no spark.. What could the problem be? I have a feeling it has to be something to do with electrical B.S.

Appreciate the help!

John

Do you have the ignition module connected(Located just below the coil pack)? If the cam sensor is not hooked up it would also lead to a no spark problem since the ECU would not know where the engine is at in its rotation and when to fire the spark. I would guess you just don't have something hooked up correctly as it would be strange timing to have a component fail on you.

Well, i went ahead and looked everything over, and i dont see anything disconected. When i put the cam sensor on, would it matter if it was 180' off or not? Does it have to be set correctly?

All the wires looks fine, no pinches and all the plugs fit tightly.. i am starting to think its something to do with the sensor.

If the cam sensor is 180 out you would still have spark, just at the wrong time. How did you verify you are not getting spark?

Well, first of all.. the engine didnt fire for the first time. I checked the compression, got the right ammount on all cylinders, along with fuel to all cylinders.. as i can smell it.

I checked for spark by taking out a spark plug, keeping it in the wire, and holding to a bolt near the manifold. I got nothing on all cylinders. I knew it was spark when the engine didnt fire at all for the first turn over.

I looked at the cam sensor, looks to be everything is attached, no nicks or anything. The coil pack is hooked up, the engine is grounded and the ignition module right below the coil is also hooked up. Is there anything else i should check for?

Thanks alot guys,
John

Is the cam sensor plugged into the right connector? There is another connector that is the same which can be mixed up. I think its the IAC or something near the throttlebody. Thats the only thing I can think of.

Your the man dude heh..

I got it to run.. but i have an issue, will explain shortly.
Turned out lol, I found two loose plugs near the fire wall.. one looked to be for the cam sensor, and the other for the coil packs.. you can laugh at me, but i had the two linked together hah.. I now have spark and the engine runs.. but barely.

It seems like the engine is only running on two cylinders, so im thinking i have the fireing order wrong.

the way i have it is basically 1-2-3-4 ; 1-2-3-4.

Is this wrong?

Thanks alot for your help

Heh, just found that the firing order is 1-3-4-2

This will most likely solve my problem, i will finish it up tomorrow and we'll see what happens.

Thanks alot for the help stash

Don't hook up the spark plug wires in that order. They should go 4-1-2-3, 4 being the closest to the valve cover than going back from there.

Alright, i got it all running thanks for the help!

But it looks like there is a coolant port on the front of the intake manifold, and after i hit about 3500 rpm it shot out fluid...

i bypassed 1 of the ports on the thermostat housing, is this were the port is so pose to hook up to or...

There is no coolant in the intake manifold, the throttlebody has two coolant ports. Maybe thats what your refering to? Thats the only thing that comes to mind.
