well, i hope this is nothing to worry about but with a DSM, i doubt it.
at idle, my oil pressure needle is under the first line by a bit and when driving, its on the first line.

what are all the problems that could cause this?
could a bad valve cover gasket cause this?

valve cover would not cause that, high mile oil changes wear on the oil pump and the pressure shows it. only things you can do are oil changes with some lucas(will help a little bit) or drive it and dont let it sit and idle with low oil pressure,or new oil pump.
wish i would have known about this i would have kept the oil pump off the 6bolt when i got rid of it.it only had 12k on the oil pump
if it were me i would change the pump, its not to hard to do and you can delete that balance shaft while your in there

yup,it right on the front of the engine behind the timing belt.so that and the water pump might be a few more things to keep in mind when you decide to do it. it will last quite awhile with low oil pressure as long as it doesnt have NO oil pressure you will be ok

no,you could just as easily reuse it but you have it apart might as well replace it if you can

Make sure the line/wires are connected to the oil pressure sending unit, it happened with mine, and then it worked perfectly fine, I'd check this first before you do anything, the.wires could just be off and not connected

you cant change the oil pump with the engine in the car if it still has balance shafts im pretty sure. easier to pull the engine IMO
