I'm on my 3rd Advance auto parts alternator (within a week) and something keeps killing the diodes apparently. The alternator works fine for a while putting out 14.55 volts, but the 3 dash lights to symbol a bad alternator flicker on for just a 1/2 second when I turn my headlights on. It also does it when I hit the switch just for the headlight to pop-up. Any ideas? anyone wanna help?

I ran extra grounds and that didn't seem to help anything.

Ran a ground wire from the alternator to the frame today and that may have solved the issue. time shall tell.

Car still seems fine. No alternator lights and its been almost 2 weeks. Have the stereo hooked up too.

I've been having an alternator issue too lately. Blow a fuse about once a week. Gonna clean the grounds up Monday and see if that fixes it.

Ok, so i thought it was fine. Cars been good for over 2 weeks. But I havent really beat on it at all, just drove it around to get from A to B. Well today I decided to have a little fun and beat on it a bit, took it up to about 5500 in third gear and wouldnt you know it, the damn alternator light came on again!!! and not that I look back, they came on in the dells after I did a pull with an SRT4.......So too much RPM seems to be somewhat of a factor here for some reason. Any ideas?

Wouldnt be because of heat would it?

haven't had my 02 heat shield on for years. Problems only been in the past month.

Its not a heat issue, last one failed just going up and down my road right after install. :(

Well here is where I am at. I reinstalled my old 02 housing heat shield, put in a new battery even though my old one tested fine, and put in another alternator. I took it for a test run and brought it up over 6K RPM's to make sure they wouldn't kill it. The lights on the dash however did still flicker on whenever my pop-up headlights went up. So for the next few days or however long, i'm going to leave them up and see if the problem continues. I'm hoping my problem is narrowed down to a headlight switch or a wire getting pinched somewhere.
