So i had my head sent to them to have to valves put in two valve guides put in and all new seals and have it cleaned and decked. Well this head was laying around in my garage by where I do my porting. So i get the head back today and im looking at it and I noticed they didnt take any of the hydraulic lifters out and im not using those. Most wont come out as they have been in there a long time the ones that i got out have metal shavings around them from when I was porting. So is it common procedure for them to not take the head apart"not the valves" when they clean it? Im kind of pissed because they are gonna have to clean it again. what do you guys think.

sounds like a half assed job to me. How did you know it only needed 2 valve guides? did they cut the seats?

cause the head was just redone like 2k ago the motor it was on broke a rod and the piston hit the 2 exhaust valves. They took it all apart and checked the guides I know it need two because I took the two bent ones out and yes they grinded the seats. But they didnt take the lifters out and there is shit in there and they dont want to come out.

Thats why I don't go to shitty places like that. They never end well. Talk to Bill at Apex in Chicago if you want it done right.

I took my motor. Or head in this case to C&S performance in butler. GREAT work. But that great work came with a nice price tag. ~$250 if my memory serves me correctly. I don't want to look at the receipt and tear up.

eitherway, you cant properly clean the head without removing the lifters.

And from my understanding, you ported the head before you sent it to them correct?

nope not this one it was just laying on my bench by were I do my porting. but thats what Im saying you cant properly clean the head because anything in those oil passages is just gonna get stuck in the lifters. Im going back to carquest in person tomorrow. part of the problem is I didnt go there the first time I just had the shop send it with them. O well im gonna piss someone off at 8 in the morning so it should be a fun time.:D

Baril Engine in Green Bay does a good job. To properly clean a head you have to clean the oil galleries, unscrewing the end plugs is the only right way to do this.

oh dont worry its getting done the right way... now I hade a few choice words for the guys I almost thought they were gonna calll the cops on me I was seriously pissed. apparently carquest you have to take your lifters out before you take it there or his exact words " I would have been crying you broke my lifter" I just laughed and told him I had three sets couldnt give a shit about the lifters but that I only had one engine and that head would have ruined it.

i never took the clutch out to do the head....and why inspect it when I have a sintered iron one sitting here ready to go in. There was no way the stock clutch is gonna hold any psi so its not like I didnt plan on doing it. Picking up the flywheel from a different machine shop today so it will be fixed tonight.
