anyone know of any special procedure to priming an pump on a 420a?
i drained the oil when i put the engine on the stand and i dont want to drop this in my car and have it stack any bearings when i fire it up.my brother ina law just did this and his engine swap has been a nightmare so i dont want to have to do it again.
i also have a 4g63 that il be dropping in a car real soon that will need to be primed
any info would be a plus

doesnt help you, but on my 5.7 in my old firebird i used an old distributor to spin the oil pump with a drill.
this may help though.
at least with a 4g63-

on a 420 there isnt a way to prime the pump as far as I know because the pump is on the crankshaft. what I did with my neons is filled them with oil then took the spark plugs out and turned it over alot with the plugs out. On the 4g63 take the timing belt off then use a drill and a 14mm and spin the oil pump gear. You will be able to hear the difference when it starts pumping oil.

hell no!!! 4g63 swap into a 2g na is a hell of an adventure from what iv seen and heard.no i have a nicer engine for my 2g and im gonna take a look at the lower end to make sure im not putting a grenade in my car.so il have to prime the oil pump
as for the 4g63, i "rebuilt" my friends shitbox cuz he had a tranny scatter and when it did it broke the bolt ears off his block.so i transplanted all of his near new internals into a different block. im about to finish putting his engine together and i need to prime his oil pump to.

Remove the plug on the oil filter housing. I believe its a 10mm allen hex.
Remove brake booster fitting/nipple on the back of the intake manifold, screw into the OFH and start pumpin!
It's in DIY form on dsmtuners.com

Otherwise if your talking about packing the gears, while I rebuilt my motor I opened up the oil pump and packed it full of assembly lube. But the method above will work too.
