I was googling this subject and on dsmtalk forum someone said that the 1g awd internals are axactly the same as the 2g awd manual tranny's?? But only the awd internals were exactly the same, not fwd.. Is any of this true??
My tranny makes my 3rd gear pop out while de-celerating?? I have the oportunity to get a 1g awd trans? And also are the gear ratios the same for the trans that way I dont mess up my rear diff and Xfer case?? Thanks guys
Alot depends on the year of the trans and what you want to do with it. But everything is pretty much interchangeable certain forks go with their matching hubs and rails etc. Honestly I would just rebuild what you got because 9/10 the the awd spare you get will have bad parts in it anyways. Or find a true low mileage 2g awd trans because the parts cost of actually rebuilding a dsm trans right far exceeds what a used 2g trans will go for.

your 3rd gear popping out is prolly somthing stupid like a bearing getting loose and its not hard to rebuild the trans yourself and doesnt take any special tools.the 1st tranny i rebuilt myself only took longer then a day cuz i had to wait for a machine shop to press the old bearing off the shaft.and they did it for free

Yeah that sound about right..My friend who has 1g fwd parts in his 2g casing knows alot about dsm tranny's, he said that either my bearings are bad or when I rebuilt my trans over the winter, that I didnt shim that set of gears properly? And over the past 1,500 miles that gearset just went to shit..That fast too.
Im in the middle of doing a 6bolt swap in my talon at the moment and today I eliminated my balance shafts, tomorrow ill be tearing my tranny apart, again. Lets see if I can't find the bad parts? About 100 miles ago I put new RedLine MT-90 in and just last friday I felt the fluid and ther were verry tiny metal shavings in it. Gradualy it getting worse. But Ill let ya guys know whats up in the meen time..
Thanks for the reply's

You said it right there that it requires "special" tools. Not everybody has a 20-ton press in their garage.. It's required to press on and off. And also clearances/pre-load must be precise otherwise you will have premature failure.
