Lets see... The guy refuses to do what cops ask of him, and the first thing he says "Why, because I'm a black man in America?" .. Ya because it couldnt have anything to do with the fact your wife called them in the first place and said there was someone trying to break in... Not sure if theres much more out there that pisses me off more, then people crying about racism when they are the main ones to blame for it...

Gates' lawyer, fellow Harvard scholar Charles Ogletree, said his client showed his driver's license and Harvard ID — both with his photos — and repeatedly asked for the name and badge number of the officer, who refused. He followed the officer onto the front porch as he left his house and was arrested there.

It wasn't his wife either, it was a neighbor (the guy said she did the right thing). Sounds like he was arrested for being a dick, not for B&E.

Clues the piggies should have used to realize it wasn't a break-in:

Limo in front of house.
Driver unloading luggage.
Really old black guy dressed in $$$ polo shirt+khakis.
Alarm system not going off.
Black guy NOT carrying tv/etc out of house.

Its not just white people being racist here, everyone does it, and everyone uses it to their advantage (Sob racism story) and until people learn to look past that (Never, its our natural instinct) racism will never dissapear. I personally am on a good level of comfort, but like I said, if I roll down to the DEEP DEEP parts of chicago and I glow like a light bulb in a dark closet, you bet your ass im not asking for fucking directions to an atm, it's natural instinct to be prejudice (SOMETIMES) as it uses your logic.

Now, as far as "Your black, I hate you for no reason" Thats ignorance. But profiling for a reason, i can't see as racism. Again, i'd profile a white guy dressed like a thug just like anyone else. Is that racism? :) I'll leave it at that, that should help spark up a few conversations

If hes a harvard proffesor he should realize that what he was doing didnt look good. If it was some punk breaking into his house and acted the way he did, he prolly would have been arrested as well.. Bottom line, its late at night, the cops prolly didnt wanna be there, then you have some asswipe blaming them for investigating.. He would have been fine if he wasnt an ass and just cooperated with the cops... If I'm out at night and the cops stop me, im not gonna be a dick.. that would just be asking them to look for some reason to throw ya in the back of a squad car..
